NEW AIRPORT.
MARLBOROUGH AREA.
SHORT WELLINGTON RUN
CELEBRATION OF EVENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, this day. Two aeroplanes from the Marlborough Aero. Club took part to-day in the opening of a new airport. Settlers from all over both Sounds were present and the celebration was a red letter day in the history of the district.
.The area which has been selected for the airport is almost exactly half-way as a terminal for 'planes flying from Wellington to Nelson or Blenheim.
The official visitors were welcomed by representatives of the Farmers' Union and entertained to tea.
Speeches were made emphasising the importance of bringing the wonderful holiday resort of the Sounds within an hour's run of Wellington. The area was stated to be very suitable', and with improvement would compare favourably with most New Zealand flying fields.
The official party were SquadronLeader Chandler, Flying-Officer F. E. Dix, and B. J. Brammall (secretary) and Mr. E. C. Lawrence, of Portage, who represented the' Sounds settlers.
