FATAL MISHAP.
BALLOON GONDOLA EXPLODES. (Received 1.30 p.m.) BRUSSELS, August 11. After repairs,, effected by the original constructor, to the enclosed spherical aluminium gondola attached to the balloon in which M. Max Cosyns—coholder with Professor Piceard of the world's altitude record of 10 miles —had planned to set a new record, hopes were revived for an early attempt.
These, however, were frustrated when tlie gondola exploded during pressure tests, killing a workman and injuring the constructor. M. Cosyns was unhurt.
