BOYCOTT BY JAPAN?
Probable Action Against Wool From Australia. TRADE BALANCE POSITION. KOBE, August 11. Leading Japanese woollen men are to meet in the house of Count Uchida, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on August 18 to discuss prospects of a commercial, treaty with Australia. It is reported that "the Commonwealth is reluctant, owing to the Imperial bloc, and that she intends to increase her tariff against Japan. Hopes have been raised of possible supplies from Argentina, also of Mongolian sheep-raising, which "will keep Australia in check." It, is conjectured that any treaty arranged will insist that Australia balances her trade instead of selling much to Japan and buying little from her. The more belligerent traders talk of boycotting Australian wool.
