RICCARTON GOSSIP.
PUNCHESTOWN SCHOOLED. HORORATA MEETING ABANDONED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Hororata Racing Grnb has decided to abandon their race meeting this season as a suitable date Sβ not available. The club will apply for tbe Saturday after Easter next season. There will be opposition to this date, which has been held by the Ashburtou Trotting Club for several years. Piinchcstown has jouied E. ,T. Ellis' stable at Waehdyke. and has done some schooling over hurdles since his arrival. He went scratehily in - his first trial, but jumped much better on the second occasion. The three-year-old filly Effozel, by Polazel—Effort, is ii recent addition to E. J. Ellis' team. She is a half-filter to Night Effort, and will race in the same interests. D. O'Connor has started work on Silver Salver at Riccarton in view of hurdle races during the winter. Drumfire is working quietly at Riccarton. He looks well, and will be a good prospect when the tracks become soft. Cranford is a much improved horse as the result of recent racing, and is expected to get on the winning list again before long. A big Masterpiece gelding in J. B. Pearson's Riccarton stable was schooled over a few steeplechase fences this week, and showed promise of making a good jumper.
