TWO WEEKS OUT.
THE LOST TRAMPERS.
FURTHER SEARCH PARTIES.
SMOKE AND- LIGHTS OBSERVED
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
MASTERTON, this day.
The search for the party of four trampers, comprising one woman and three men, who have been in the Tararua Ranges a fortnight to-day, is being pushed forward with renewed vigour, especially in the Waioliine-iti area. Improved weather is greatly assisting the searchers.
A radio message was broadcast last evening from Mr. F. W. Vosseler, of the Tararua Tramping Club, reporting that smoke was seen at noon and lights at 6.30 p.m. on Thursday by two reliable observers, who were eight miles apart in the area between Broken Axe and Baldy, south of Mitre Flat. Mr. Vosseler asked that a party should search the area as quickVy as possible. The message was received at Mount Holdsworth mountain hut, which later advised that a party was leaving immediately to search the area. Another Masterton party was taking the area east of Mitre Flat to Mangaterera. A light was also reported last evening, apparently from the same area.
Four Masterton parties set out this morning to investigate the area where the lights were seen. An aeroplane will also make a survey.
