LOCAL BODIES.
ONE TREE HILL COUNCIL.
The One Tree Hill Borough Council met this week, the Mayor, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, 'presiding. Building Permits.—Since the last meeting seven permits, of a total value of £694, have been issued. The total for the year to date was £2513, which was slightly better than, for the same period last year. Footpath Repairs.—The foreman reported that the Great South Road footpath from the Harp of Erin to the Penrose bridge on the east side was in bad condition. It would, he said, 'be a costly matter to tar the whole path, as there was over a mile of path, 10ft wide. The matter was referred to the incoming council. Water Bill.—The Onehunga Borough Council asked if the council would pay one half of the additional bill of costs (£6 6/) received iby them for further legal expenditure incurred in connection with the alteration required by One Tree Hill to safeguard, its rights in respect of the present water supply. It was decided to 'decline the request. Water Mains.—The superintendent of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board advised that the flows and pressures of water were, at present, quite adequate for ordinary fire-fighting purposes. Unfortunately, however, a number of streets had no mains at all for fire-fighting needs, while in certain places extra plugs would be an advantage. A Report Denied.—A statement made by an unemployed leader recently that all local bodies in Auckland had taken advantage of No. 5 scheme to dismiss permanent hands was denied by Mr. W. G. Mulholland. As far as One Tree Hill was concerned, he said, the report was without truth.
