FOUR DROWNED.

HEAVY FLOOD IN FIJI. THIRTY INCHES OF RAIN. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SUVA, March 30. Fiji has been visited by remarkably heavy rains, which have fallen right over the whole group. The fall at Suva totalled 26in from the 19th to the 26th, but at Bandarivatu and at Ba, on the north coast of Vita Levu, no less than 30in fell from last Saturday till Monday afternoon. A strong gale blew at Singatoka, and the office of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, which was on the beach, was washed away. Some damage was done to the Singatoka bridge, and the passenger train service was suspended. It is not expected that there will be much damage to the sugar crops, as the waters are running off the land rapidly.

The District Commissioner at Lautoka reports that there- had been heavy floods at Singatoka, and that four men —two Fijians and two Indians—have been drowned.

The rain continues, but not to such an extent as during the last week-end. This has been the wettest March experienced for many years.
