PLUMBERS' DISPUTE.

"WAGE CUTS TOO GREAT." OFFER BY EMPLOYERS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CBCRISTCHURCH, this day. The adjourned hearing of the plumbers' dispute before the Conciliation Council was resumed yesterday. It was stated that there was no indication of an agreement on the wage question. "The employees consider the employers have not shown a conciliatory spirit," said Mr. H. Thompson, for the unions. "All the conditions we have fought for and won are to be lost. The 'cuts' in wage?) and overtime are too great to meet the increased cost of living." Mr. D. I. Macdonald replied that the employers had stated they were prepared to refer the question of wages to the Arbitration Court, but could not do so unless the employees stated definitely what they would agree to. The employers had given away considerably on the original proposals. It was his opinion that the offer was the fairest made by any group of employers.

The employers refused to agree to a motion by the employees that the whole dispute should be referred to the Arbitration Court, and the proceedings closed with no agreement of any kind arrived at.
