HORSES AT TE AWAMUTU.
SOME AUCKLAND CANDIDATES.
EAGER ROSE DOING WELL,
There has been very little doing here in the nature of fast work for, some days, most trainers giving their charges a slight let up after their recent racing. One that is being kept going is the Easter Handicap candidate Eager Rose. This mare continues to work along in a nice manner, and will be in fine fettle to fulfil her engagements at the Auckland meeting. Another who is going on the right way since Te Rapa is the Great Northern St. Leger candidate Jonathan. This gelding is doing some solid work on the plough, with an occasional sprint on the course proper, and will strip a very fit horse. He appears to have overcome, to a certain extent, the tendency, to knock himself behind.
Nothing on the tracks at the present time carries a brighter appearance than Impasto. This colt is not being asked to do anything of a strenuous nature at present, but should be in fine fettle for the Champagne Stakes, as should his stable companion D'Artagnan, who also is being restricted to pace tasks. Sea Ruler, Beryl Latour, Ruri, Arawa Rose, Rita's Light, Trishna, King Comet, Gallant Jack, Kanapa, Marechal, Tehakoe and Trickling Water are all oh the active list, but are not being hurried. Campanero, who was turned out for some time, has made his reappearance on the tracks, and appears to have made a good recovery from the soreness which caused his let up.
Another of W. Cook's charges to be brought back into work is Dinelli. This filly has filled out a little and looks a picture. She has been used for a few months on the polo field.
Sir Musk, who has only just recently been initiated to the jumping game, looks like making good in this department. Yesterday morning, in company with Emancipation, he jumped a couple of fences on the hurdle track in a very pleasing manner. ■
