SYBIL THORNDIKE SEASON.
Box plans will open to-morrow at Lewis Eady'e for the first six days of Dame Sybil Thorndike's season in Auckland, which commences at His Majesty s Theatre next Saturday evening, with George Bernard Shaw's satire, "Captain Conversion.'" Rich in comic situations and witty dialogue, with that ever-present Shavian capacity o£ laughing at. one's self, "Captain Brassbound's Conversion" deals with, the period of 1899 in Morocco, the principal characters being an altruistic and "managing" Lady Cicely Waynflete, a judge of the English criminal courts, a rascally smuggler-pirate captain of British paternity, a Cockney foremast hand, a missionary and some fanatical and murderous Tuaregs, or Riffs. As Lady Cicely Waynflete, Dame Sybil is said by those who have seen the play to reveal to the full her talent for comedy and serio-comedy. Her husband, Mr. Lewis Casson, is responsible for the production of all the plays in the season. Shaw's "Saint Joan," the immortal story of Joan of Arc, will be staged from Wednesday to Saturday evening inclusive. On Tuesday afternoon next, a special production of the famous Greek tragedy of Euripides, "The Medea," will be given. "Mcbeth" and "Madame Plays Nap" will be produced in the course of the second and final week of the season.
