AEROPLANE TRAGEDY.

EVIDENCE AT INQUEST.

PILOT NOW RECOVERING. (By Telegraph.—'Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. An inquest concerning the death of Richard Guy Putt, who was killed in the aeroplane crash at Pihama on Sunday afternoon, was opened at Opunake today before the district coroner, Mr. R. S. Sage, at Hawera. After medical evidence and evidence of identification had been taken the inquest was adjourned sine die.

The inquest will probably be resumed when the pilot, Mr. Brian Davies, has sufficiently recovered to give evidence. An aeronautical inquiry will probably be held.

Giving evidence, Mr. Forsyth, over whose home the aeproplane was circling prior to the crash, said he saw the aeroplane flying over his house and the flyers signalled to him from the aeroplane. Prior to adjourning the inquest, the coroner said he was sorry to state that the removal of the aeroplane from where the accident occurred was contrary to the Aerial Navigation Act and he would haye to report it. Mr. Davies' condition to-day is improved. Ho is recovering from concussion. His other injuries include a deep cut 4in long in the forehead and a broken nose. There is no sign of internal injuries.
