STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

PLANS FOR ROYAL ARTIST. Royal Artist did not wait for the last day of the Wellington meeting. His showing in the W.R.C. Handicap on Saturday was ordinary, .but as he cannot handle tracks under soft conditions it was not surprising. " The Leighton gelding is not engaged at any immediate meetings, but will .probably have his next race in the Te Aroha Cup, in which event he boat all but Peter Jackson last year. J. T. JAMIESON'S PURCHASES. The yearlings recently purchased by Mr. J. T. Jamieson at the Trentham sales are expected to receive thbir early education at Takanini. R. Miller will have charge of these youngsters, who will later be shipped to Australia. They are the Limond—Homage col't, Hunting' ■ Song— Speechlcss' colt, Grand Knight—Coconut colt and the Chief Ruler —Cymene colt. On breeding lines it would be hard to select a better bred quartet. A CHANGE OF. LUCK. The Hawer'a trainer J. Fryer had a change of luck at- Trentham on Saturday when Chief Line scored' in the Mungaroa Handicap. The winner is a four-year-old gelding by Chief Ruler from Mareeline, and was bred by Mr. J. Donald, of Wanganui, who sold him as a yearling at the Trentham bloodstock sales in 1930 for 325g5. He has been placed on several occasions this season, but his success ou Saturday was the first credited - to him during the present term. A CONSISTENT FILLY. .The victories gained by Ruling Light at "Trentham prove the daughter of Chief Ruler and . Simper. to be a inost consistent galloper and "she is now evidently at the top'of her form. The field, opposed to her in the Metropolitan Handicap on. Saturday included several high-class'sprinters and in beating them she registered the best performance of her career. Ruling Light comes from a great family, as her dam Simper also produced Affectation, Gold Light, Razzle Dazzle and _ Beacon Light, all first-class performers in their day. Ruling Light has won the last three races that she has contested and her future prospects' look exceptionally bright. TRAINER'S MIXED LUCK. The mixed luck of the Takanini trainer E. Pope has "been very noticeable during the current season.. The bad luck started when Lady Whirlwind received a kick from a companion during the "winter') and while saving the injured hock at night in her box she badly wrenched the sam,e, -which has necessitated a lengthy respite in the paddocks. Prince of Orange received all his education here until a week prior to his win over fences at Ellerslie, and since then has gone on winning. The-next piece of bad luck was the loss of Valmarie, who was in splfendid racing trim,, but met with an accident in the paddock which was responsible for her 'being destroyed. At the Takapuna meeting High Comedy dropped dead while racing, and the loss of his services was a severe blow, to the stable. Prince Colossus was in this stable until a few days prior to his running second in the County Handicap.;at Ellerslie, when he was paying over a century to win. Last but not least, came the sale of Tea Trader, the brilliant sprinter, who was a great favourite. The loss of five members of his team' .was very disappointing, but tlie successes/of -Royal Artist in the Mitchelson and Wellington Cups, Speedmint in the Goldfields Cup, Gav Sheila at Avondale and Tea Trader at Te Rapa and at Ellerslie," were bright spots in what appeared to *>e a severe run of bad luck. Fortuned wheel has certainly handed a mixed deal to this nientor, but he still has a. fair team to <«n*j,on •with., f • - . ■
