MR. S. H. DAVEY.

Having almost attained his 94th birthday, Mr. Samuel H. Davey, a wellknown "resident of Thames Valley, died at Te Aroha this week. He was in the habit of paying regular visits to Te Aroha for mineral waters. He was born in Devonshire on New Year's Day, 1830, and came to New Zealand in ISB3, landing at New riymouth, and shortly afterwards moved to Thames Valley. Mr, Davey was one- of the pioneers of the Gordon Settlement. On leaving Gordon fifteen years later he took up ;)0S acres of freehold in the Ngarua district, the price then being 35/ per acre, as compared with £30 to £40, the prices asked to-day. Mr. Davey sold that property, and purchased a farm at Stanley Road, where he had lived for the last 20 years. Mrs. Davey died five years ago.
