CANTEEN FUNDS.
GRANTS FOR AUCKLAND. MINISTER GIVES FIGURES. As the outcome of an inquiry made by Mr. A. Harris, M.P., on behalf of Mrs. E. Niccol, the Minister of Defence, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, has explained the position in regard to grants from the Canteen Fund. The Minister states that the amount of grants sent to Auckland for the past three months were: September, £224; October, £248; November, £248. The reason for the slightly smaller amount for September was that for that month a portion of each grant was deducted for the benefit of the Maoris. Prior to September the total grant from the fund for the Dominion was £1000 a month, but the various districts received a quarterly grant. Auckland's allowance amounted to £450. The grant for the last three months was an increase on that previously made.
