SATURDAY'S EVENTS.

TAMAKI CLUB.

KEEN RACING OFF KOHIMARAMA.

The Tamaki Yacht Club held its second series of races on Saturday, starting and finishing off the Kohi. wharf. There were 57 starters in nine classes, and all were very keenly contested-. Additional interest was given by the first trial of the Sanders Cup boats, the end of the Kohi. wharf being crowded with spectators. The new boat, Aileen, after a close race, finished 5s ahead of Idler, with Desert Gold a long way astern. The best field was in the V class, where all the 14 boats started and made a fine sight as they ran towards St. Helier's mark with spinnakers set. The 11 Wakateres also made a close start. After their race the Narrow Neck boats were all towed home by Mr. Frank Pidgeon's launch. The finish of the V class was very close, only 28s separating the first three boats. The handicapping was also good, a little over 2m separating the first six boats on corrected times.

The ofHcers for the day were:—Starter, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson; judge, Mr. S. Nicholas ; timekeeper, Mr. H.. Grayson ; recorder, Mr. Wilkinson. Results :— M Class.—The finish was: Manu 3h 52m 50s, Maratea 3h 55m 10s, Matarere and Mawhiti, dead-heat, 3h 57m os. Result. Manu 1, Maratea 2, Matarere and Mawliiti 3.

V Class. —The finish was: Avro 4h 4m 255, Paroro 4h 4m 525, Mcmutu 4h 4m 535, Doris 41i 5m 30s, Ranui 4h 8m 575, Maia 4h 9m 20s, Wild Wave 4h 10m 50s, Drone 4h llm 18s, Rita 4h llm 355, Martha S 4h llm 50s, Romance 4h lira- 535, Waitea 4h 21m 50s. Result: Rita 1, Doris 2, Memutu 3.

S Class.—The finish was: Namu 4h 19m 355, Rangatira 4h 21m 355, Waitoa 4h 22m 3s, Swiftsure 4h 23m 555, Phoebe 4h 24m 40s, Clio 4h 25m 555. Result: Waitoa 1, Phoebe 2, Namu 3. T Glass.—The finisjj was: Shalimar 41i 30m 335, Eleanor 41r 36m 15s, Speedwell 11. 4h 45m 42s . Result: Shalimar 1, Eleanor 2. Speedwell 3. Y Class.—The finish was: Demon 4h 35m 15s, Opah 4U 38m 50s, Kea 4h 40m 10s, Alerte 4h 42m 30s, Sea Nymph 4h 44m 30s, Murital 4h 4Gm 15s, Rabiri 4h 50m 535. Result: Kea 1, Alerte 2, Sea Nymph 3. Z Class.—The finish was : Oi 4h 34m 50s, Mo Too 4h 36m 255, lolanthe 4h 38m 40s, Tamaki 41i 41m 225. Result: Oi 1, lolanthe 2, Tamaki 3. X Class.—The finish was: Aileen 4h 8m os, Idler 4h 8m ssi Desert Gold 4h 24m 30s. Result: Idler 1, Aileen 2, Desert Gold 3.

Wakatere .Class (eleven started). —The finish was: Waiata 4h 40m 555, Wairiki 4h 43m 255, Wainui 4h 46m Is, AVhakawhero 4h 46m 555, Waimea 4h 47m ss, Waiola 4h 48m 355, Whippet 4h 50m 325, Windward 4h oOin 50s, Wasp 4h 57m 30s, Winalot 4h 58m 30s, Wairere 4h 58m 58s. Result: Waiata (R. Nicholas) 1, Wainui 2, Wniola 3, Whakawhero 4. Wainui (B. Croyden) wins the commodore's prize for the first novice to finish.

Naval Whalers.—Philomel No. 1 3h 30m 40s 1, Philomel No. 2 3h 31m 55s 2, 92-KI 3li 32m 11s 3.

SANDERS CITP TRIAL.

NEW BOAT, AILEEN, WINS BY SS. The first trial of the Sanders Cup boats to decide Auckland's challenger for the next contest, which takes place at Lyttelton on Wednesday, February 1, was held on Saturday afternoon in conjunction with the Tamaki Yacht Club's races off Kohimarama.

There were only three starters, the new boat Aileen, handled by "Sonny" Clare; Idler, sailed by W. Rogers, and Desert Gold, by A. H. Wilkinson.

The boats were given a special course, and started ahead of the other classes. Aileen, Desert Gold and Idler got away together and on the beat to Sandspit, Aileen drew ahead, but overlaid her mark. Idler rounding 10s ahead with Desert Gold some minutes away. On the close haul on starboard to the Resolution buoy, the two leaders had another good go, Idler rounding 52s ahead. On the run to the finish Aileen passed Idler, and the finish was Aileen 4h 8m ; Idler, 4h 8m ss; Desert Gold, 4h 24m 30s. Desert Gold opened up a seam, and got a lot of water aboard.

Messrs. G. E. Laycock and T. McKnlght, two of the selectors, followed the boats round the course.

THE WAKATERE CLASS.

WIRITOA WINS RICHARDSON CUP. '■ There were 19 starters in the race for the Richardson Cup, sailed by the boats of the Wakatere one-design class off Narrow Xeck beach during the week-end. The race started at 11 a.m. over three rounds of a triangular course, about five miles. The start was a particularly keen one, 17 of the boats crossing the line within 20 seconds of gunfire. On the first leg, Wiritoa had a slight lead which she increased to Css on the first round from Wakatere, which was 5s ahead of Waiata. On the second round, Wiritoa increased ner lead to 3m from Wairiki, which was 19s ahead of Waiata, with Wakatere 25s and Windjammer 5s away. On the final round Wiritoa, ..well handled throughout by N. Wing, who only completed his boat' last week, got the gun 4m 30s ahead of Wakatere.

The finish was:—Wiritoa, 12h 9m 20s; Wakatere, 12h 13m 50s; Windjammer, 12h 14m 15s; Wahine, 12h 14m 18s; Wairiki, 12h 14m 20s; Wanderlust, 12h 15m Is; Waiata, 12h 15m 10s: Wairere, 12h 19m 40s; Whirlwind, 12h 20m 455; Wanderer, 12h 21m 50s; Waimea. 12h 24m 40s: Windward, 12h 2Gm ids; Whakawhero, 12h 28m 50s ; Winiata, 12h 30m 225; Whippet, 12h 31m 20s. Result:—Wiritoa (N. Wing) 1, Wairiki (O. Probert) 2, Wnhine (A. Williamson) 3. Windjammer did not cross the starting line on the right side. Wairiki and Wakatere had a foul, also Whakawhero and Wanderlust, and White Wings' skipper reported fouling Whirlwind.

MARRIED MEN'S. RACE. The second race was sailed at 3 p.m., when the skippers . were restricted '. to married .members of the club. Eight boats started .over. three rounds of the small course. ■ All started off scratch, and Waiata took the-lead.- The finish, was ? very close, only 9s separating Waiata and Wfritoa. Result:—Waiata (Frank Harkins), 3h 42m os, 1 ; Wiritoa (R. Sheppard), 3h 42m 9s, 2; Windjammer fH.-Jarvis), 3h 42m 555, 3; Wahine (J. Colinsori), 3h 44m 4s; Wairiki (W. Mahoney), 3h 45m ss; and Wainui (B. Croyden.: sen.),' 3h 47m 50s.

Mr. W. A. Wilkinson was starter and timekeeper, and Mr. .Nicholas judge.

MODEL YACHTING.

MANUKAU CLUB. The Manukau Senior Model Yacht Club held their second series of races on Saturday in Mill Bay, Onehunga. Results :—B. class: Pilot 1, Venus 2, Tui 3. A class: First heat, Restless 1, Lucky Girl 2. Second heat: Ace 1, White Heather 2, Martie 3. Final: Restless and Lucky Girl dead heat for first place, Martie 3, White Heather 4.

PONSONBY CLUB. . A design ot a three-footer to suit the proposed standard class of this club will be submitted by Mr. Arch. Logan to the meeting to-morrow evening in the Ponsonby Club rooms. ORAKEI BASIN CLUB. Tho Orakei Basin Model Yacht Club held four races for model yachts on the Orakei Basin on Saturday afternoon. The first race was the final for ■ the Points Cup, which resulted as follows:— Rangi (D. Cole), 1; Monarch (R. Jensen) 2; Twilight (M. Beetson), 3. There were 17 starters in a straight race, the result- being: Sea Spray (G Brown, jun.), 1; Demon (T. Jenson), 2Silver Mist (R. Grace) 3. Two heats over a triangular course were sailed and resulted as follows :—First heat • Twilight 1, Monarch 2, Britannia 3' Second heat: Enterprise 1, Silver Mist 2 Demon 3.

MANUKAU YACHT CLUB.

WINS FOR ALMIRA AND COMET. Six boats started in the Manukau Yacht and Motor Boat Club's yacht race oa Saturday. They were r-atficia, Sea Toiler, Almira, Wild Wave, Aotea and Sybila, which crossed the line In this order. Patricia led on the first round, followed by Sea Toiler. Coining to the last mark, it was a really good race between Almira and Wild Wave, Sea Toiler being several lengths behind. It was a close finish, which showed good handicapping. The result was: Almira, 4h 55m 17s, 1; Wild Wave, 4h 55m 50s, 2; Sea Toiler, 4h 56m ss, 3 ; Aotea, 4h 56m 475, 4; Patricia and Sybila, 4h 56m 565, dead heat. The launch race was called off. There were two heats held in the 12ft Gin class. Results :—First heat: Comet 1, Nor'Wilson 2.. Second heat: Nor' Wilson 1, Tuatea 2. Final: Comet, 4h 10m 525, 1; Nor' Wilson, 4b. lXm 12s, 2.
