HOME SERVICE.
The lounge of the Y.W.C.A. hostel wae charmingly decorated on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Auckland Home Service Association on Fridayafternoon, when the flowers were arranged by the girls of the junior committee. Mrs. J. T. F. Mitchell presided. In the course of her remarks she stressed the value of the ae6ociation in the community and to the girls and women, and looked forward to the day when the financial position would admit of the' development of benevolent and training side or its work. The general report was read by the secretary and the office report by the manager, which showed there were 534 members for the year, and the work in the office had increased vastly, and reflected great credit on the ability and enthusiasm of the manager. Every effort was made to safeguard against exploitation, such ae overworking or underpaying, aleo to ensure that young girls should find work in congenial surroundings. Miss Janet Wallace reported on the activities of the junior committee and Mrs. C. J. Kirk read the balance-sheet. This showed a small credit balance.and impressed the membere with the fact that the running expenses of the association were extremely small. Several members spoke in appreciation of the services of the manager. Thanks were'expressed to the Y.W.C.A. for free use of rooms for committee meetings and to all those who had assisted the society during the past year. Dr. Margaret Knight gave a bright and interesting address, which was much enjoyed. She spoke of the value of the Home Service Association from the viewpoint of the medical profession, and the benefit to the health of women and children when the domestic machinery ran smoothly and well. She urged a better understanding and sympathy between empoyer and employee. Two violin solos by Mrs. Heeketh and two recitations by Mre. Pool© were much appreciated.
