MR. BENJAMIN T. HAWEINS.
The death has occurred at Birkenhead of Mr. Benjamin Tapscot Hawkins, at the age of 76 years. He was an old resident of the district, and the last surviving member of the first borough council, constituted in ISSS. For many years he was one of the largest strawberry growers on the North Shore,' the orchard being eventually subdivided for building sections. Later he was agent at Birkenhead for a fire insurance company, though several years ago he retired from active business. He is survived by Mrs. Hawkins, a son, Mr. William James Hawkins, of Birkenhead, and three daughters, Mesdames F. Townsend, W. Johns and N. Speary.
