MILFORD DANCE.

The coronation of Miss Sylvia Scales, recently elected queen of the Surf Club Carnival at Milford, was held in the Picturedrome on. Thursday evening. The large hall was effectively decorated with flags and bunting, lilies and native greenery, and the stage was masked, with lilies and ferns, and backed witn draped flags. The Takapuna Municipa Band played suitable items at tne entrance to the 'Drome, and Scotts Orchestra played for the procession an the dance following the crowning ceremony. Miss Sylvia Scales, the scarlet queen, wore a double-flared frock 01 heavy white satin beaute, with l° n S train falling from the shoulders, _01 scarlet velvet, bordered with ermine. Miss Josie Mascelle, the first lady-m----waiting, wore an ivory white frock ox celeste satin, with godets of silvered lace, with ermine bordered train of pale blue velvet. Miss Muriel Wilson wore ivory satin, with shoulder cape effect, and deeply-yoked skirt, and train of golu velvet and ermine. The procession gained much in dignity and picturesqueness by the old-time costumes worn by the officials, the Loru Chancellor, heralds, pages, and flower girls. Those taking part in it, and in the order they appeared, were: The standard bearet, Miss Violet Lee; the heralds, Marie McCaffery and Madge 6r.eptre bearer, John Gibbons; crown bearer, D. Coleman; sivord bearer, M. Mascelle; fiower girls to Queen, Athlene Shirley, Dorothy Hinton; the Queen, Miss Sylvia Scales; her tram bearers, Hadyn Sherley and Brian Coleman; Lord High Chancellor, Mr. A. B. Coleman (escort to Miss Scales) ; master of ceremonies, Mr. D. Cruickshank (escort to Miss Josie Mascelle); first lady-in-waiting, Miss Josie Mascelle; flower girls to Miss Mascelle, Margaret Price and Muriel Davis; train beareis, Joan Swann and Ursula Mert; second lady-in-waiting, Mies Muriel Wilson; escort to Miss Wilson, Mr. W. Mowday; flower girls, Marjorie Merry and Lina Wolstenholme; train bearers, Betty Stronach and Dorothy Cadness. The crowning ceremony was performed by the Lord High Chancellor, Mr, A. B. Coleman. Before leaving the , stage, a dance eolo before the Queen was given by Irene Stewart, and songs were sung by Mr. W. Mellor. Mr. C. Mascelle acted as master of ceremonies for the dance which concluded the evening's amusement. The organiser for the procession and staging was Mr. Hickey. Amongst those present were: Mrs. Scales, wearing black satin and lace; Mrs. Mascelle, black lace, with crimson flower spray; Mrs. Wilson, black ring velvet. Others present included: Mesdames Coleman, Ede, Hickey, Sherley, Day, Elliott, Anderson, Lush, Huteliings, Edwards, Hayes, Waterhouse, Lawrence, Lane, Cook, Buriess.
