MISSION BAY.

ROADING TO BE COMPLETED. RESERVE IMPROVEMENTS. STATEMENT BY THE MAYOR. Bice Avenue, Mission Bay, otherwise that portion of the Tamaki Drive between Mission Bay and Kohimarama, will probably be laid down in concrete this suuimei\ The Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, said this morning that the work would take about six weeks to complete and he expected that the necessary financial sanction would eoon be forthcoming. Certain authorities were necessary for the diversion of moneyes that were in hand and which had been saved in the construction of other sections of the road. As soon as those authorities were iseued the work would be done expeditiously. Referring to Selwyn Park, the reserve that fronts Bice Avenue and Mission iiay itself, and which has become such a popular resort since the opening of the Drive, Mr. Hutchison said a comprehensive plan for the improvement of the reserve had been sanctioned some time ago by the council, but the work had not been completed owing to lack of funds. Recently minor improvement work had been put in hand. It was proposed to make a small indentation at the apex of the reserve, opposite Patteson Avenue, for buses to take up and set down passengers. At the present time people leaving the bay had to cross the road to board buses going to the city, and, as many children were concerned, it was considered that a proper bus stop on the reserve would be in the interests of safety. Only a small part of the reserve would be encroached upon, and 40ft would be the maximum depth of land required, laperlng off to nothing.

The comprehensive plan, which would be gradually proceeded with as opportunity offered, included the planting. of trees and the making of paths to bathing sheds, and a band rotunda, but it had not been finally decided whether paths would be constructed, as many people preferred the open field for playing purposes. The reserve would not be used for football, as that would be restricting Hie use of the ground to a few people, and the council's view was that the reserve must be for all.

Mr. Hutchison said that at both ends ot the reserve a considerable amount of filling in had been done by the council, which had extended the area of the reserve far beyond the amount of land that would be required for the bus stopping place and footpaths.
