TABLET UNVEILED.

LATE REV. DR. KENNEDY ELLIOTT. A tablet was unveiled to the memory of the late Rev. Dr. J. Kennedy Elliott at the Kent Terrace Presbyterian Church, Wellington, during the evening service on Sunday. There was a large congre l gation. The inscription on the tablet reads:— To the glory of God, and sacred to the memory of the Rev. James Kennedy Elliott, 8.A., D.D., first minister and founder of this Church, 1880-1929. A fervent preacher, a faithful minister, a man greatly beloved in this city. "How beautiful upon the mauntains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace." The tablet was unveiled by his eldest son, Mr. R. D. Elliott.

The preacher, the Rev. James Baird, 8.A., taking as his text Genesis v., 24: "And Enoch walked with God, and he was not; for God took him."

"In unveiling this plaque to his memory to-night," said Mr. Baird, "we thank bod for His servant who passed away from these scenes three and a half years ago full of years and wisdom. We thank God for his homeliness and gentleness with us, for his frank friendship, his individual thought of others! his concern for all that troubled his people; and there are many who owe to him their own souls also. We thank God for his association in his day with the wider work of the Church, remembering that he was Moderator of the Northern Churrh at the time of the union." The preacher added that it behoved them, if they were to be true to his memory, to remember and hallow his faith. This was what he would wish who was by nature a very humble and simple. spirit. "Knowing him as I, did," concluded Mr. Baird, "I can say that his humility shrank from any glorification of his virtues. But if tribute were to be paid it would be his will that it should end with the acknowledgment of thanksgiving, 'not unto us, not unto us, 0 Lord, but with Thy name be all the praise. . Ho would have Christ magnified, whether by life or by death.
