PIANO STUDENTS.

The Auckland Piano Students' Association have devoted two meetings to a survey of German music, dividing it into two periods—classical and romantic. At the first papers were read by Misses J. Ranston and B. Pelham, and illustrations were given by Misses J. Ranston, P. Wallace, D. Hughes and E. Nops. Last night Miss Wallace read two papers dealing with the rise of romanticism in Germany, and the leading composers of the period. A duo, "Grand Duo Concertant" (Weber) was played by Miss Joyce Parker and Miss E. Blackburn, and the following contributed solos:—Miss Wallace, "Prelude in E Minor" (Mendelssohn); Miss Nops, "Sadness of Soul" (Mendelssohn); Miss B. Pelham, "La Fileuse" (Raff). The evening concluded with two novel competitions, and prizes were won by Misses J. Parker, J. Smith and M. Jagusch.
