PREPARING FOR ELLERSLIE.

THIS MORNING'S WORK. ! MIDINETTE SPRINTS FAST. Weather conditions were perfect for training operations at Ellerslie this morning and there was a "fair amount of galloping in view of the Auckland Racing Club's spring meeting, which opens on Saturday. The course proper, with the poles 40 feet out, was available., and the No.-3 grass track was also open, but was not in great demand. The- going was excellent and some useful gallops were recorded, the best being those of Senior, Aesculus, Karangapai, Hampton Park, Midinette and' Mahkill. The Course Proper. The first to work were Good Idea and Hawthorn, who were sent five furlongs, running the distance in 1.8 3-5. Supreme Ruler and Ruling. King worked over a gimiTar distance, running their first two furlongs in 265, and registering 1.6 3-5 for the journey. * Bath these ..horses did their iworknvell. The two-year-olds, Senior and Spiral, were companions over half a mile. The former was in.front early, but Spiral, who etayed on well, caught him at the finish,'; the time being 51 4-ss. Royal Gallant was not going better than threequarter pace while traversing a mile in 1.57 2-5, and Court Haven was going comfortably at the end of six furlongs, which occupied 1.26. Vandyke ran home from the half-mile post in 53 l-ss. This horse looks well, and could have improved on the time. Aesculus was too good for Llanore at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.6. Karangapai hit out very freely over six furlongs, while registering 1.18 3-5. This was one of the best efforts of the morning over the distance, and this hack should show up in his early engagements. Hunting March assisted him over the last five furlongs, which were covered in 1.5 3-5. Hampton Park ran right away from Tetrarchate over five furlongs, recording the fastest time of the morning over the distance. Catoma and Psychologist were associated over a round, which occupied 2.10 2-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.26 1-5 and the final half-mile 57 2-ss. Psychologist finished about eight lengths in front. , Roman Mascot and Cynthia N. finished on terms after traversing seven furlongs in 1.56. They both did their work nicely. Tarporley showed to more advantage than Royal Bengal at the conclusion of half a mile, which took 52 2-ss. Tarporley looks in first-class order, and should show up in his forthcoming engagements. Patutahi and Operatic were associated over a round, which occupied 2.15 2-5, the final six furlongs taking 1.28 1-5. Lady Winifrede ran home from the three furlong : peg in 38 4-ss. .She was finishing on at the end of, her work. Gibraltar, Easter Time and Tigerism were companions over a round, but had no pace on until they reached the old mile post, running home from that peg in 1.48 1-5, the last seven furlongs being covered in 1.35, while the first half-mile took 535. Gibraltar was going very short at the start, and tailed off early,' but was right up with his companions at the finish. Easter Time and Tigerism l/.tli did their work impressively and could have done a lot better. No. 3 Grass. Lord Aintree did useful work over six furlongs, which occupied 1.20 3-5, and United strode over the same distance in 1.27. After "schooling, Priiice of Orange completed six-furlongs in 1.25 1-5. Several two-year-olds, maidens and older horses were given barirer practice and were sprinted half a mile. They included Bright Flower, Demylus, Kiltowyn, Sister Em; Ornamental, Brampton, Deputy Ruler, Marching Song and the. Kilbroney— Miss Hazel gelding. Sister Em was in front over the first part of the gallop, but Deputy Ruler had charge at the threefurlong post. Kiltowyn then went to the front, the majority of the others being eased up. The half-mile was covered in 52 l-ss. . The Jumpers. Wee Prince (Garrett) and Zane Grey (H. Dulieu) negotiated four schooling hurdles safely. ■ The former gave a firstclass display. Patutah'i (Olive) was schooled over a couple of hurdles twice, fencing with p.Ynty of dash. Prince of Orange (H. Dulieu) and Sleepy Sol (T. Williams) jumped a couple of hurdles separately, and afterwards were companions over four hurdles, giving a safe display. Sleepy Sol jumped a bit high at the start, but improved as he went along and fenced with plenty ot confidence.' . „*'■■',," ,\ i Neil (Chaplin), Absent (Craddoek) and Carlaris (Burgess) were in that order after completing a round of the steeplechase course. Absent and Carlaris were several lengths ahead of Neil going along the back and over the hill, but he outstayed them and finished in front. Arrivals. ■ To-day's arrivals include Midian, View Halloo, Golden Wings, Gipsy Love, Garfex, No Doubt and Bon Rapide.
