CARLTON CLUB.
The opining'of the Carlton Bowling Club { took place' in the presence of a large number of bowlers and visitors. The pre- ;j sident, lir. Jas. Clarksou, welcomed the ! ladies and members from other clubs, and i drew special attention to a veteran bowler, I Mr. Geo. Campbell, from St. Helier's Bay, ' tq whom Mr. Clarkson had been apprenticed > 50 years ago, and who was present on the , green. The club' had had a wonderful year of progress, their takings for both summer and'winter seasons being, a record. There had been a large influx of new members, 2< having been elected during the previous fortnight. The greens were in splendid order, due to the efforts of the ground committee and the caretaker, Mr. Montgomery, who, he regretted to Say, was in the hospital. The sympathies of all bowlers would go out to Mr. Montgomery during his illness. The jack having been thrown by Mrs.' CJarksotv the president declared the greens , open l'or the season. During the tea adjournment Mr. R. Sheath, president of'the Centi'e. and Mr. .1. Pascoe, past-president of the Centre, attended and were welcomed by Mr. Clarkson. lir. Slieath said it was a pleasure to be,at Carlton with its good greens and ideal surroundings. He indicated that arrangements were likely to be made by the Centre for the broadcasting of big tournament finals. Mr. Pascoe extended his best wishes to the Carlton president, and commented upon the large membership and playing strength of the club. The following: is the result of games played:— A.
