DEATH OF TRAM PER.
COLLAPSE .WHILE WALKING. MR. WILLIAM STEPHENSON. The death occurred in the Auckland Hospital at 9.30 this morning of Mr. William Stephenson, of Sylvan Avenue, Mount Eden, aged 52 years. Mr. Stephenson collapsed while takin» part in a "mystery hike" a week ag°o yesterday. He was taken to the hospital in a serious condition, and remained semi-conscious for some days. He then rallied a little, but relapsed and died this morning. Mr. Stephenson was ar well-known billiard player, being one of the best that New Zealand has produced. He was professional champion until Clark McConachv defeated him about 1912. As a snooker exponent there has not been his peer in the Dominion. Of many exceptional performances at snooker probably" his bcist known effort was that in which lie cleared the table in two cues. For many years he conducted a billiard saloon. An enthusiastic tram per, his favourite haunt was Rangitoto. He was a member of the Auckland Tramping Club.
