HANLON BENEFIT MATCH
fcfARIST V. THE REST
It is a tribute to the .code that the senior'clubs, near the _ end of a heavy season, should have united with enthusiasm in arranging to stage a special match to aid an old comrade who ie far across the" eeas, and reported to be in straitened circumstances. When private news was received that the ex-Richmond full-back, Trevov Hanlon, who went Home to play for his father's old club, Broughton Rangers, was in need, following injuries and other ill-luck, club executives in Auckland got together and decided on a special effort to raise funds for the return of Hanlon, his wife and two young children, to New Zealand. The Marist Club, which takes a .pride in rendering good service for the game, responded gladly to a suggestion that a worthy attraction would be acceptance of a challenge by a team selected from the rest of Auckland. All arrangements are complete for this fixture to-morrow, when a fine content i<s expected to wind up senior play for the year. Marists are keen to win the honours and show that sound club combination is a telling factor in field success, whilst the Auckland team will aim to demonstrate that the best talent is by no means con-fined--to the wearers of the green and gold. With a couple of exceptions Marists will have the team which trounced Ponsonby last week.. Laird, their brilliant Waikato forward, who was injured, will !be replaced by Herring. Pat Median, the dashing young winger, who, like McDonald , , another three-quarter, has been off the scene owing to injury, has been in training and will appear. "The Rest" side is composed of ten of the thirteen which performed with merit for the Sunshine Cup at Huntly, with the addition of Delgro3so at full-back, Seagar at centre, and Prentice. With the latter opposing Brisbane, some clever ineide ;back play may be anticipated, supported; by speed and resource on the' respective Hanks. With the weather anything like fair, it should prove oae of the best "curtain-dropping" clashes presented for the past three years. Preliminaries will be several junior semi-finals or finals. Teams: — "The Rest." —Delgrosso, Watene, Seagtir, Crook, Brimble, Prentice, Olliff, Clarke, Stevens, Simpson, McLeay, Leatherbarrow, Lawless. Marist Old Boys.—Campbell or Cornthwaitc, Median, List, Schultz, Brisbane, Dunn, Hassan, Webberley, Campbell, Carter,' Herring, Thompson, Clarke. ' •
