GOLF.

NEW ZEALAND TOURNEY. MRS. J. C. TEMPLER CHAMPION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, this day. In the final of the New Zealand ladies' golf championship, played over 36 holes at Highfield links yesterday, Mrs. J. C. Templer (Waimate) beat Miss B. Rutherford (Hawarden), 8 and 7. Aβ Miss Bonnie Wright, the winner had also been Dominion champion in 1919 and 1920. On her play throughout the tournament Mrs. Templer thoroughly deserved her victory. She had shown a remarkably consistent standard. The result was a clear indication of the merits of the two finalists on the day. The winner played an almost perfect short game, invariably advancing to greens with unerring accuracy. An indication of this is to be had from the faot that on a number of greene she required only one putt. Occasionally a mis-directed shot found a bunker, but Mrs. Templer got out of trouble in a masterly manner. She completed the first nine liolee in the morning in 38, Mies Rutherford taking 42. At this stage Mrs. Templer was 4 up, Mise Rutherford s6 far having failed to win a hole. At the completion of the first eighteen holes Mrs. Templer was still 4 up. Miss Rutherford, shoving an improvement on her form earlier in the day, managed to equare five holes, but had only one win. Mrs. Templer won five out of 11 holes in the afternoon, the match finishing at the twenty-ninth.

Mrs. Templer's record is:—Timaru club champion, 1915 to 1923 (no contest between 1915 and 1919); Canterbury champion, 1920 to 1924 inclusive; South Canterbury champion, 1930; Waimate champion, three times; Hamilton champion, 1919; New Zealand champion, at Auckland. 1919, and at Christchurch, 1920: Mellsop Cup, 1914, 1919, 1920.
