CYCLE ROAD RACE.
LAMB'S NEW WORLD RECORD, ■ i MELBOURNE, October 9. There were 222 starters in the Warrnambool to Melbourne road cycle race (165 miles) yesterday. It resulted: R. J. Reynolds (Essendon), 39 minutes, 1; G. W. Walker, 39 minutes, 2; R. J. Cruise, 35 minutes, 3. Won by two lengths, one length between second and third. R. W. Lamb, scratch, rode the distance in the fastest time, 6 hours 21 minutes 18 seconds. Reynolds won a well-judged race. The youngest rider was 16 years old and the oldest "was C. M. Clarke, aged 76. Clarke rode off the 80 minutes' mark. Lamb broke M. Lynch's course record, and also the world's record put up by M. Lipicli last year by 11 minutes 10 seconds. Ossie Nicholson, scratch, finished four lengths behind Lamb and entered a protest, alleging interference, but the protest was dismissed.
