M.C.C. AT COLOMBO.
HOME SIDE BATS WELL. COLOMBO, October 9. The English cricketers, who are on their- way to Australia to' endeavour to recover the "ashes," reached Colombo yesterday by the Orontes. They were welcomed by Captain Skinner, representing the Governor of Ceylon, Sir Graeme Thomson, and by officials of the Colombo Association.
Ten thousand people watched the team in a practice match against a local combination which made a record against the Englishmen of 79 runs for the first wicket.
The game closed at lunch with the total at 125 for three wickets (Brindley 82 not out).
Allen took one wicket for 22 and Mitchell one for 31. The wicket was soft. •
