CUP TIE SOCCER.

y. SEMI-FINALS REACHED. TWO GAMES TO-MORROW. FALCON CUP COMPETITION. . The Soccer season has yet three Satur- • • day* to run ero the curtain will fall for 195®. Cup ties are responsible for the unusually prolonged season, and tomorrow's games are the semi-final ties for the Falcon Cup. The contestants are Abels versus Y.M.C.A. and Ponsonby versus Thistle. Both matches should be fast and keenly contested, and at this time of the season there is no saying what may happen;- Abels have done exceptionally. well in the junior grade this season, and have ambitious for senior status next year, so that their meeting with the season's champions should provide an interesting occasion. Cup ties between Thistle and Ponsonby are always productive of thrilling football .•Hid it would be rash to offer any indication as to what may happen in their clash to-morrow. Both teams are out to win and a strenuous game is assured. Teams are as follow:— Y.M.C.A. Senior.—Cowle, Mowat, Ross, Bentley, Christie," Thornes, Humphries, Chalmers, Bell, Hamilton, Kay. PONSONBY. Watson, Potts, Stewart, Morrison, Grant, Masters, Innes, Diamond, Cole, Forrester, A. Morrison. Reserves: Haggett, Mulholland. THISTLE. Gerrard, McCosli, Williams, Watson, Wright, Constable, Cummings, E. Williams, Williamson, Hyslop, Woods. MID-WEEK COMPETITION. THREE GAMES PLAYED. 1 The Seamen's United were extended to beat Grand Hotel by one goal to nil, after a fast and interesting game. The mainstay of the hotel was Olsen, whose sound defensive tactics repeatedly saved his side. Joyce played his best game to date for the seamen and Tanner and Murray were the best half-backs. Huston wa« the best of the hotel forwards and had hard luck not to score on several occasions. Abels beat Exchange by two goals to one, after an evenly-contested game. Humphreys, Morris and Hulbert made a clever trio for Exchange. Behague drew first blood for Exchange ten minutes after the second spell opened. Williams, Wiseman and Owens combined in a pretty movement for Abels, which resulted in Williams beating Hulbert by a "daisy cutter" 20 yards out. Abels obtained their winning goal a few minutes before the final whistle. From a melee in front of the Exchange goal, R. Stone gave Hulbert no chance to save. Mount Albert proved too good for Customs and established a lead of three goals in IS minutes. Alain Flyger beat Bach after tricking two opponents. From an accurate pass by the same flayer, Kim connected and put Mount Albert two up. Reid was the next to score from close range. Grant, McGrory, Hunter ?nd Saundercock were oustanding for the winners, and Bach, Thom, Greensmith and Cro«s excelled for the losers.
