"PROGRESSIVELY WORSE."
UNEMPLOYED WOMEN. CONFERENCE IN AUCKLAND. As a result of a conference held this morning between Messrs. A. Harris, W. J. Jordan and H. G. R. Mason, M.P.'s, and representatives of women's organisations in Auckland, it was decided to send a telegram to the Prime Minister pointing out the serious position of unemployed women in Auckland. At the conference it was stated that 1 the position was exceedingly grave, and the Prime Minister is to be asked to give immediate instructions so that unemployed women may register at post offices, and urgent steps taken to grant relief in necessitous cases. "The position is getting progressively worse in Auckland each week," said Mr. Harris. "There is no doubt of the serious position of the unemployed woman who has not relatives or friends to depend upon. The existing facilities for registering have proved to be quite inadequate and have not met requirements."
