AUCKLAND BOARD'S MEETING

APPOINTMENT OF TEACHERS,

There was a full attendance at this morning's meeting of the Auckland Education Board. The chairman, Mr. A. Burns, presided.

Relieving Teachers.—The Education Department advised that the Minister of Finance had exempted relieving teachers under the rationing scheme from the provisions of the National Expenditure Adjustment Act, and that the salary of £100 per annum to such teachers would therefore not be reduced.

Governor-General's Visit.—The Gover-nor-General's private secretary advised that his Excellency would visit the Auckland Training College on Thursday, June 23, at 11.30 a.m.

"Small Farm Plan." —A letter from the "small farm plan" executive reported that a school site reserve of 15 acres in Maungatapere Parish, north of Whangarei, would be suitable.for settlement by one or two unemployed married men and asked if the board would make the property available to the Agricultural Department for a period of five or ten years at a rental of £5 per annum. It was decided to grant the request, provided a portion of native bush on the property was preserved.

Unemployed Students. —The Department asked for information concerning the number of ex-Training College students who were out of employment. It was reported that the Department had already been informed that there were 77 ex-students without positions.

Appointments of teachers were authorised as follow: — . .

Head Teacher.—Mr. J. T. Edgar, Papa roa.

Sole Teachers.—Miss D. A. Dale, Albertland North and Hoteo North; Mr. J. J. Jensen, Omana; Mr. A. E. Cadwallader, Te Whetu; Mr. J. M. Cochran, White Hills.

Assistant Mistresses. —Miss V. MeCrea, Matamata Junior High; Miss N. L. Walter, Manawaruj Miss E. Parton, Mauku; Miss E. Downs, Pakanae.
