GISBORNE PILOT INJURED.
MACHINE BADLY DAMAGED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Saturday. An aeroplane crashed on the Gisborne Golf Club's course this afternoon, and as a result the pilot, Mr. Simon Baring, is in hospital suffering from a broken nose and shock. For months past Gisborne members of the Hawke's Bay Aero Club have been negotiating to have a machine stationed in Gisborne for instructional purposes. The request was finally agreed to and a Moth machinc was sent up here this morning. Several pilots had flights and Mr. Baring, who is a licensed A pilot, took his turn.
After flying for some time the machine, it is stated, went into a spin at a low altitude and the pilot, being unable to recover in time, the machine struck the ground at an angle of 45 degrees. The aeroplane was badly damaged, the front part of the fueelagc being smashed to matchwood. The pilot stepped out and after medical attention wae removed to hospital.
