CURRENCY REFORM
LEAGUE IN AUCKLAND. FIRST OFFICERS ELECTED. As the result of a meeting last evening it was decided to form a Currency Reform League. Sir George Richardson presided at the meeting. Dr. J. C. Finlay explained the objects of the movement as under: (1) The securing of an investigation by a commission of New Zealand currency; (2) "selfgovernment in money" so that the control of monetary policy, including the creation of currency and credit, should be taken out of the hands of private enterprise and entrusted to a board whose policy would be (ixed by Parliament, but which would carry out that policy in complete independence of Parliament, of overseas banks, and of local trading bunks. He said that the only unit of measurement that had not been standardised was the unit of value. The value of the New Zealand pound should be stabilised and the price level raised. He moved the adoption of the objects. Colonel S. J. E. Closey drew attention to the evil effects of a deflationary policy on returned soldiers. Dr. Finlay's motion was carried, and officers of the league were elected as follow: President, Sir George Richardson; vice-presidents, Messrs. S. J. E. Closey, A. A. Roes, and S. Takle; committee, Dr. J. C. Finlay and Messrs. A. Gray, A. C. A. Sexton, Kemp, Jordan, Scrimgcrmr, Darlow, Woodruft'e. Mu)lin«er, Nugent, 11. G. W. Haddow, and A. 15. Robinson; secretary, Mr. M. C. O'Xeill; treasurer, Mr. A. C. Goodear.
The Xew Zealand Pekinese and Persian Cat Club will hold their show tomorrow in the Unit}' Hall, Upper Queen Street. The exhibition will include the third grand championship of cats.
