HANDS PINNED DOWN.
MAN'S BODY IN RIVER. EX-SOLDIER'S DEATH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WAIPUKU.R AU, this day. The body of a man believed to be Mr. W. B. Downie, aged 50, a returned soldier, formerly of Auckland, who last month paid his unemployment levy at Herbcrtville, Hawke's Bay. was found in tho riverbed at Argyll yesterday afternoon by Messrs. T. Fox and F. Polhill. of Waipukurau, while out shooting. The body was in a. kneeling posture with a strap round the neck and the other end fixed to a tree. Both hands ■were pinned down by a big stone. _ An inquest was opened at Waipawa this afternoon.
