DEVONPORT COUNCIL.
Mr. H. F. W. Meikle presided at the regular meeting of the Devonport Borough Council last evening. Lighting Costs. —The Takapuna Borough Council wrote suggesting that a deputation representative of North Shore boroughs wait on the Waitcmata Power Board respecting a reduction in the cost of supply of electricity. The Mayor and council favoured the idea, and the Mayor was deputed to represent the council. Water. —Tlie council agreed to have a report made on the question of modern chlorinating plants, and that the North Shore Water Board be. asked to arrange for a bacteriological examination of the water of Lake Pupuke quarterly. Balance-sheet.—The treasurer reported receipt of the balance-sheet from the Auditor-General free of tags, upon which he was complimented by the council. Unemployed Relief.--The engineer, Mr. A. T. Griffiths, reported that 262 men were engaged during the week on relief I works.
