TAKANINI TOPICS.

CATCH'EM DOING WEIX.

REFRESHER IN GOOD ORDER.

Night Warrior's track work has not been very impressive, and, although lie is in nice condition, he does not appear to have any immediate prospects. This colt has taken a long while to materialise, lie will probably be taken to Gisborne in July, to winch meeting J. Gray may also take Foulwind.

The Oaks winner, Speedmint, bears a very bright appearance, and it is probable that she wi" be given a race at the forthcoming Gr< at Northern meeting. Prior to racing at Te Rapa last week she had enjoyed a let up, and the outing should have been beneficial. This filly is showing slight signs of soreness, but the trouble is not serious and is unlikely to upset her preparation.

For the past few weeks R. Miller has been working all his charges on J. T. Jamieson's private track and little has been seen of their progress. Xext month will probably find them back on the Takanini track, where they will undergo further preparations. Despite the fact that the bulk of Jamieson's team is in Australia and more will be sent to-day, Miller will have plenty to engage his attention with the recommissioning of several who are at present spelling.

F. Smith's live y_earlings have all done well since being broken in and are now shaping nicely in their light work-outs. It is not'the intention of their owner, Mr. T. Impey, to race all these youngsters as juveniles, and one that probably will not be sent out until attaining the age of three years is the Whirlwind—Holymond filly, who is a trifle on the small side.

Arch Ruler's soreness is still in evidence, nnd at times the ailment is very noticeable. The trouble is in the shoulder and he is taking some time to shake it off. It is a pity that his preparation has been seriously affected, as he showed at Te Kuiti that he had only to remain right to have a successful period during the winter months.

One that at present is showing every indication of coming right back to his best is Catch'em, who of late is galloping well. Recognised as a winter proposition, the son o£ Catmint and Miss Mclba will have plenty of opportunities dining the next few weeks. It will be recollected that he won at the last Great Northern meeting, returning a remunerative dividend.

Refresher is in nice condition to tackle his sprint engagements at the Great Northern meeting. Although the Tea Tray gelding has so far this season has failed to notch a win, he has several minor placings to his credit, including a third in the Railway Handicap. As he handles soft tracks fairly well he may be worth keeping in mind from now on.

Lady Vane is infusing more dash into her work than, formerly and has been credited with some useful efforts on the track lately. Princess Star, who performed well at the Gisborno meetings, is in nice order to repent those performances should she make the trip again. Her mentor, W. Goscomb, is also considering taking St. Ames, Bugle Call and Topstar.
