LIMEEN AND PROTOMINT.
BOTH WORK WELL. The course proper, next to the rails, was available at Te Awamutu yesterday morning for horses with engagements at the Great Northern meeting, while the others worked about 40ft out, but there was very little in the way of fast work. The only ones to work on the rails were Limeen, Protomint and Nassau Lady. This trio hopped away from the sevenfurlong barrier, Protomint having a break of several lengths. However, Limeen was hitting out nicely and at the end of two furlongs they were together, having taken 2G l-ss. They ran on to the post in 1.4 2-5, making 1.30 3-5 for the seven furlongs. Nassau Lady's rider lost an iron after having traversed half a mile, and she finished a long way back. Limeen was moving freely, and if started in the Cornwall Handicap will show up. Protomint is working well and should perform creditably. On the outside of the course proper Leitrim and Te Homai_ were allotted a mile and a quarter. Neither was moving above three-quarter pace over the first couple of furlongs and the first six furlongs occupied 1.23, and the last half-mile took 595. Both were moving well within themselves. Just Nell, who is nominated in the Hunters' Hurdles at Ellerslie, received an injury when schooling on oaturday morning and will not be sent to the meeting. Inside Grass. The following horses were allotted pace work on the inner grass tracks —-Tnshna, Lucidus, Sea Ruler, Emancipation, Sir Musk, Miss Lorraine, Beryl Latour, the Musketoon — Sibford gelding, Kanapa, Shamgar, Jonathan and Len. Beryl Latour is an unlikely starter at Ellerslie. A. Cook lias an addition to his stable, a gelding by Yalkyrian—Black-eyed Susan. He is a five-year-old and though very green at present, should not take long to mould into shape. _ J. Mcßae will have the mounts on le Homai and Leitrim at Ellerslie.
