NORTHCOTE COUNCIL RESOLUTION.
Arising out of a request from the Rev. F. W. Wilkes that the privilege be extended him of discussing with them matters connected with the unemployment problem, the Northcote Borough Council last evening conferred with Mr. Wilkes for nearly two hours.
On resuming in open council, the following resolution was carried and copies of it are to be forwarded to the Government, and Mr. A. Harris, M.P., while the* Borough Councils of Devonport, Takapuna and Birkenhead are to be requested to co-operate: —"That the Government be urged to increase the number of days allocated to unemployed at .the present rates of 12/0 per day, as, in the opinion of the council, the remuneration proposals now before Parliament are quite inadequate for the purpose of maintaining the wives and families of unemployed in anything like reasonable conditions of existence."
