MAYOR PLEASED.
COMMITTEE'S PROPOSALS.
DIRECT TO GOVERNMENT,
When informed this morning that the strike had been called off, the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, said he was very pleased that the council of the Unemployed Association had decided to withdraw opposition to the remaining men returning to work. The position was now left open for the committee which he had appointed to make such representation to the Government as the committee had decided upon in regard to relief work conditions.
"Official intimation of the calling off of the strike has not reached me from the Unemployed Association, and as the last communication I received from the executive intimated that the executive considered it would be useless to discuss further with me and my committee I propose to address any communication I have to make to the Government."
