The distinguished gathering of Rotariane attending the conference of the 76th district at Newcastle was warmly welcomed at Sydney by Mr. Sydney Pascall, president of the Rotary International. The. Governor, Sir Philip Game, said he rejoiced at the opportunity of meeting Mr. Pascall, the first Britisher to occupy the presidency of the international.
Four hundred Rotarians from all part 3 of Australia are attending the _ conference. One of the subjects being discussed is bribery and corruption in commercial life, the outcome of which will be a decision to form a Bribery and Secret Commissions Prevention League which will make appropriate representations to the authorities.
Mr. Pascall's address emphasised the advantages of service before self, and the creation of a healthy social atmosphere. He said that Rotary clubs were drawing France and Germany closer together and bridging the prejudices between Dutch and English in Africa. Rotarians must never lose their grip of the fundamental principle of fellowship and service.
