YEARS ON DEVIL'S ISLAND,
(Received 10.30 a.m.)
BERLIN, April 26.
The last German war prisoner has only now been liberated and repatriated. When he was captured the French authorities court-martialled him on the ground that, as he was an Alsatian by birth, he ought not to have joined the German Army, and he was sentenced to life detention at the pei.al colony in French Guiana. In response to the German Government's- representations President Doumer granted a pardon.
