CANBERRA, this day
Events in the fight which is being waged by the Commonwealth Government against New South Wales for recovery of the payment on behalf of that State of overseas interest, advanced a further stage following a meeting of the Federal Cabinet.
Instructions have been issued to the State taxation officer of New South Wales, Mr. McMahon, to hand over to the Commonwealth Treasurer all documents relating to State and Federal income taxation.
A special "Gazette" was issued amending the regulations under the Financial Agreement Enforcement Act to provide that all documents relating to taxation be handed over to the Commonwealth Treasurer on demand. The Commonwealth has the power under the regulations to forcibly enter the New South Wales State offices and seize whatever documents it may require. Lang's Dramatic Move. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly resumed yesterday morning. With dramatic suddenness, an hour and a half later, the Premier, Mr. J. T. Lang, moved an adjournment until to-day, giving no reason. This surprised everybody. The Opposition demanded a reason but the closure was applied. The House rose with considerable speculation regarding Mr. Lang's plans, and with not a little anxiety.
