INTOXICATED MAORI.
STOLE BOOTS THAT DID NOT FIT

WHANGAKEf, Tuesday,
On Saturday Jack Kake, a well-known Whangarei Maori, got drunk and stole a pair of boots which did not lit him. This morning he appeared in the Police Court and admitted being drunk and stealing the boots, which were valued at 25/ and the property of Offers, Ltd.
Senior Sergeant Powell said accused had 'been before the Court only once before. He did not know why Kake had stolen the boots, because they did not fit him. The police had recovered the boots. Accused, continued the senior sergeant, had been locked up since Saturday night.
Kake was convicted and discharged on the dninkenness charge and fined £2 and taxi hire on tile second. An order was also made for the return of the boots. Accused was allowed a month in which to pay the fine.
