NEW LYNN VALUATIONS.
MANY INEQUALITIES,
DEPARTMENT REFUSES REVISION.
Many inequalities are said to exist in the New Lynn borough valuations, despite the fact that a complete revaluation was made in 1931, and the council has asked for a further revaluation. In writing to the Valuer-General, the council said the 1931 revaluation remedied the anomalous circumstances which were previously in existence, but the persistent drop in land values and the actions taken by ratepayers under sections 45 and 50 of the Act, had again created a similar position. In applying for a prompt revision for rating purposes in 1932-33, the council pointed put that the recent revaluations made showed a drop of 23 per cent of the 1930-31 valuations, which demonstrated the need for a fresh complete revision of values.
A reply received from the Department last evening was in the negative, and this year the rates must be levied on the values on the roll at March 31.
