LOOTED GOODS.

"BOUND TO GET CAUGHT."

FOUR MORE OFFENDERS

ENGLISH PUBLIC SCHOOL BOY.

As a result of the riot and looting which occurred in Queen Street on the night of April 14, four persons who were arrested for theft appeared at the Police Court this morning.

"The public' expects better of you, bein" an English public school boy," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to Keith Harry Bryan Robinson, aged 23, who appeared for sentence on a charge of stealing a wristlet watch and three rings, of a total value of £2 10/.

"You have had a week in prison on remand and I hope it will let you see which way you are heading," added the magistrate. "I will treat you as I did others, and fine you £5 or one month's imprisonment." Labourer Given A Chance. Another who had spent a week on remand was George Albert Collett, aged 40, labourer, charged with stealing a pair of shoes worth 18/11, and a pipe valued at 3/6. The magistrate said he would not fine Collett, who was a man in poor circumstances and one who suffered with bad health as the result of a serious accident some yearn ago. "However, you should not steal," he said. Collett was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months. Theft of Hat. Howard Ernest Gargan, aged 22, found guilty of stealing a hat valued at 12/0 on April 14, was also fined £5 or one months' imprisonment. Counsel appealed strongly for a chance, gtating that there was no proof that the hat was stolen. Gargan had merely picked it up in the street and wore it. "Load" Off Her Mind." The theft of a gold wristlet watch and a gold ring, of a total value of £4 2/0, belonging to Skeates Bros., and another charge of stealing a hat worth 12/0, the property of Doreen Selkirk, was admitted by Edna Maude Jarvis, aged 24, who was arrested j'esterday. Detective Sergeant Kelly said accused was seen standing near Skeates Bros.' window when it was smashed with a stone. A young man who stepped into the window handed the jewellery to Jarvis. She was afterwards seen to go across the street and take a hat out of a milliner's window.

"Unfortunately, accused was in Queen Street on the night of the riot, when the stolen stuff was handed to her," said counsel. "It worried her a great deal, as to have stolen property in tlreir possession must be worrying others, for they are bound to get caught in ' the end. However, she is now glad to have the load off her mind. She feels her position very keenly, and is sorry for what she did. She is a hard-working girl and very poor." Accused will have to pay a fine of £2 10/. '
