REPORTED SHELLING OF NANKING BY JAPS
THIRTY WARSHIPS IN SHANGHAI WATERS. (United P.A. Electric Telegraph. Copyrig'ht.) (Received 12.30 a.m.) SHANGHAI, 1. Reports received here state that Japanese warships are shelling Nanking from the river. The cause is not stated. Seven Japanese vessels are stationed off the capital. There are now 30 Japanese naval ships in Shanghai waters, including three aeroplane carriers. The Japanese assert that they can throw 80 'planes into the air.
