CHARGE OF MURDER.
TRAGEDY AT KARERE EVIDENCE CrRCtTMSTAinTiW^ COMMENTS OP JUBGB. > i (By Telegraph.—Press Assoelatloiw) PALMERSTON N"„ this day. The Supreme Court session opened before Mr. Justice McGregor to-day.-there being three criminal cases for trial, including a charge of murder against Norman Robert Decke, a young farm hand, arising out of a tragedy at Karcre on August 23 last, when Edwin John Blakeway lost his life Referring to the charge against Decke, his Honor said that in fairness to the accused he did not propose to go into the evidence. There was no doubt that the unfortunate man Blakeway was murdered by being shot with a rifle. The only question was whether there was sufficient evidence to justify placing the accused on his trial. He appeared to be jealous of Blakeway regarding the affections of a young girl, and it was suggested that that was the motive for the crime. The evidence against the accused was merely circumstantial. The grand jury, after a retirement of 90 minutes, returned a true bill against Decke.
