ALL SAINTS' CHURCH.
GIFT TOR PEAL OF BELLS. LATE MR. JAMES STICHBURY. The late Mr. James Stichbury, three years prior to his death, handed to trustees the sum of £500 towards the cost of purchasing a peal of bells for the new building' of All Saints' Anglican Church, Ponsonby. The Rev. W. W. Avcrill is one of the trustees. Mr. Stichbury stipulated that the "gift must remain anonymous until his death. This occurred on January 12, at the age of 89 years. Mr. Stichbury was at the opening of All Saints' Church, and attended the sixty-fifth anniversary at the end of last year. His family were bellringers for many generations in England, hence his desire that the new building should have a peal. It was his wish that any surplus from his gift should go towards a fund for the payment of a ringer. The fund for the erection of a new church building, although now substantial, is not yet sufficient for the purpose, and it is not considered opportune at present to make a general appeal to the congregation. The giffc of Mr. Stichbury has been invested, and now amounts to £600, and if the erection of the building is delayed for some time the amount accumulated may be large enough to carry out his wish that the ; bells should be provided with mechauism j enabling them to be manipulated by one ringer, operating on a keyboard.
