CRICKET.

OLD BOYS' CLUBS

At a meeting of the Auckland Cricket Association executive last night a resolution was carried to the effect that it was the considered opinion of the executive that the creation of secondary schools old boys' clubs in Auckland was not in the best interests of cricket here, tor the reason that it would seriously weaken the existing clubs and thus endanger the general development of the game in the city. The resolution followed on an application by the Mount Albert Old Boys' Association for permission to enter a team in the grade games. Messrs I. W. Gamble (headmaster of the school) and V. C. Butler (Old Boys' president) attended in support of the application, and put forward the argument that the existence of an old boys' club would keep in the game boys who were lost to the game after school under present conditions, and that eventually the club would enter the senior grade. Mr. H. Duncan pointed out that out of a total of 85 players in the present senior grade in the city there were 43 old boys of secondary schools, and he thought that if they were withdrawn to old boys' clubs the existing district clubs would be so weakened as to be unable to carry on. He pointed- out that when the King s College Old Boys' Club was admitted to the competitions only four of its old boys were playing senior cricket; but the position had now changed. After the deputation had retired the committee decided to recommend to the incoming committee that the application from Mount Albert Grammar School Old Boys' Association be' declined. It was also decided to recommend the incoming committee to revert to the 'sixball over in the coming season. In reply to the Windmill Club, the committee decided to make no objection to the club making the Morningsidc reserve its home ground for the coming season, providing there was no financial obligation on the association and no guarantee to the club to have all its matches played on that ground.
