THEFT FROM WORKMATE.
STOLE TO PAY DEBTS. YOUTH PLACED ON PROBATION. A charge of stealing, between August 0 and August 17, sums of money totalling £3 10/, was preferred against Allan Frederick Home, apod 19, motor mechanic, at the Police Court to-day. Accused, for whom Mi - . Aekins appeared, admitted the offence. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said Home was employed by a motor firm. On August (i he stole £1 from the locker of a workmate. The following day he stole another £1, and, on August 10, 10/. On August 11 ho went off work with an injury, and while he was away the thefts ceased. Later a trap was set, and he stole from the locker another £1 note, the number of which was later identified. Accused was an apprentice and after paying his board," be had 11/ left with which to keep himself. Ho had never been in trouble previously. He was in debt to the extent of £8 and he conceived the idea of stealing the money to pay his debts. While admitting that the thefts were contemptible, Mr. Aekins asked for leniency in view of Home's previous good character and his youth. He was admitted to probation for two years and ordered to make restitution.
